National Palace of Sintra

Unparalleled monument for its extraordinary historical, architectural and artistic worth, it’s located at the heart of the town’s historic centre. It’s the only palace of Sintra, of all built by the Portuguese monarchs during the Middle Ages, which kept the essence of its features since the mid-16th century to this day. Inhabited by the Royal Family for eight centuries, was mostly used during the summer and the hunting seasons.

Designated a National Monument in 1910, is included in the Cultural Landscape of Sintra, World Heritage since 1995, as classified by UNESCO.

In 2013, the Palace joined the Network of European Royal Residences.
