The international symposiums organized by the Lisbon & Estoril Film Festival have been astoundingly important to the discussion of current themes and artistic issues

Où commences-tu?
Et où commence l’image que je fais de toi?

Jean-Luc Godard, a paradigma of modern cinema? One ( the?) of the most importante and influential filmmakers of the past century, he also leaves behind him na enormous trail of influences. Even for his detractors, who do exist. Loved and cherished by many, and sometimes challenged by other, Godard has made a decisive impact on his and our ages, in a permanent state of revolt. He transformed himself, experimented with fiction and documentary, with film essays, diaries, television news stories, clips, publicity or even commissioned films. But, as Jacques Mandelbaum wrote, “ always with the same joy of stylistic invention”. The radius of his oeuvre’s action is immeasurable and spans absolutely every artistic field, from cinema to literature, music and plastic and visual arts. The Godard effect has even influenced design and publicity. This is why, along with the full retrospective of Jean-Luc Godard’s work, LEFFEST is also organizing an international symposium to which it has invited directors, writers, critics, essayists, actors and artists who will speak to us of the importance that Godard’s work has had still has, to this day.
