Walter Salles is a Brazilian director of both documentaries and fiction whose works deal with such themes as travel and the search for identity. His film Central Station won him the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival in 1998, the Best Foreign Film Award at the Golden Globes and two nominations for the Oscars. In 2004, The Motorcycle Diaries was an international hit, having won an Oscar and dozens of other awards. The film, just like two of his most recent films - Linha de Passe (2008) and On the Road (2012) - were part of the Official Selection of the Cannes Film Festival.
