TESNOTA: social realism in the bleak heart of Russia

Tesnota/Closeness, the first film of Russian filmmaker Kantemir Balagov, who films the ethnic and religious divides in the bleak heart of Russia, received the LEFFEST- Jaeger-LeCoultre Best Film Award.

Balagov studied directing with Alexander Sokurov and, after several short films, he directed Tesnota, presented in the section Un Certain Regard of the Cannes Film Festival, where he received the FIPRESCI award. The film also received the Tarkovsky Film festival - Zerkalo 2017, Young Critics' Award.

For her performance in Tesnota, actress Olga Dragunova received the TAP Revelation Award of the Lisbon & Sintra Film Festival.

Tesnota will be screened today in two sessions, at 4pm and 9:15pm, at Cinema Monumental, Room 1.
