In a press conference held today the main features of the 6th edition of LEFFEST were divulged. The Festival director, Paulo Branco, announced the Competition and Out-of-competition lineups – both part of the official selection – as well as the tributes and retrospectives dedicated to Brian de Palma, Monte Hellman, Hou Hsiao-Hsien, Lucrécia Martel , João Pedro Rodrigues, and João Rui Guerra da Mata
The Lisbon & Estoril Film Festival Jury, comprising of the neuroscientists António and Hanna Damásio, the actors Willem Dafoe and Fanny Ardant, and the musicians Alfred Brendel and Sónia Wieder-Atherton, was also revealed. In addition, exhibitions by David Hockney and Alberto Lacerda (“There”, in House of Histories in Cascais) and the Portuguese painter and filmmaker Noronha da Costa will be held.
The Mayors of Lisbon and Cascais, António Costa and Carlos Carreiras respectively, highlighted the role of the festival in the promotion of the country´s culture and its economic, turistic, and social relevance - the event creates jobs and contributes to hotel, restaurant, and transportation revenue.
Enrique Vila-Matas, Hanif Kureishi, Isabelle Huppert, Olivier Assayas, and the filmmakers Lucrécia Martel, Monte Hellman, and Adolpho Arrietta have confirmed their presence at the Festival.
