Adieu Philippine

A film by Jacques Rozier

Back
France, 1960. Michel, one of the three young protagonists of Adieu Philippine, is a television technician. Upon being summoned for military service in the war of Algeria and expected within two months, Michel decides to quit his job and go on holiday to Club Méditerranée in Corsica. Juliette and Liliane, two inseparable friends, both of whom he had seduced and gone out on dates with, join him on the island. A never ending game involving seduction, complicity and rivalry begins. Widely considered one of the best works of the Nouvelle Vague, Rozier’s first feature paints the portrait of a whole generation of young men forced to leave for Algeria, bringing to screen one of many stories of goodbye.
