Magnolia

A film by Paul Thomas Anderson

Back
Magnolia is a fascinating journey that wanders through interconnecting tales of loss, loneliness and forgiveness, painstakingly painting the complex interweaving of a handful of characters living in the San Fernando Valley. Through his unique observational and character-centred approach, the film undresses trauma and masculinity in a continuous revelation of the fragile skeletons hiding behind the performances that uphold patriarchal archetypes. Stitched together as a long continuous ride, this tragedy following the intersection of the lives of a police officer, a nurse, a pedlar, a tv host, a producer and an unstable wife is one of Anderson’s most challenging works.
