The Master

A film by Paul Thomas Anderson

Back
In the 1950’s, a charismatic intelectual sets up a new religious organisation called “The Cause”. Known under the name of “The Master”, Lancaster Dodd transforms Freddie, a jobless  alcoholic, into his right-hand man. As the church grows and acquires more followers, the young disciple begins to question the faith and mentor that he embraced. Amongst numerous distinctions, The Master received three Oscar nominations and was considered one of the best films of the year. Filmed and exhibited in 70mm, it strongly influenced the revival of analog cinema in the predominantly digital industry of this day and age.
