In the midst of the 19th century, Abigail and her husband, shadowed by the recent death of their daughter, lead an emotionally-distant life in the remote countryside of the American East Coast. At the arrival of Spring, new neighbors set foot in their bucolic landscape. In an elegant and lyrical ode to the star-crossed romance, Abigail’s own blossoming paints itself through an intimate and passionate relationship with Tallie, the unvarnished and graceful newcomer. Norwegian filmmaker Fastvold’s second feature evidences a powerful sensibility on the intricacies of social seclusion, loneliness and the romantic upheaval of the status quo.
