L., a student at the Film and Television Institute of India, exchanges letters with K., her boyfriend,
who will abandon her to meet his family’s demands, since L. belongs to a
lower caste. This personal conflict is set against a background of
political turmoil: her fellow students have gone on strike to contest
the nomination of a new director – a television and commercial film
actor, who is an activist of the ruling party. An epistolary film and a
manifesto, A Night of Knowing Nothing is also a defense of
cinema, of a free cinema that quivers with pain and fury, giving us an
account of what is happening today in India, mixing reality with
fiction, dreams, memories, fantasies and anxieties.
