A director who pays particular attention to the idea of territory, Jacques Audiard renews and reinvigorates the territories of his cinema, corresponding to a thirst for new spaces. He had already done it in the western The Sisters Brothers, where he looked for a space that worked as a counterpoint to films like, for example, A Prophet. Now, in Paris, 13th District, he is looking for a new “space” (thematic and aesthetic territory) in the daily reality of Parisian youth. An admirable renovation and proof of the freshness of a director on the edge of his 70s, the film, shot in black and white, portrays with suggestive sensitivity a group of young friends whose apparently fluid relationships somehow hide some individual insufficiencies.
