After failing his Law exams, Witold decides to spend some days in the countryside and stay at a guesthouse. Fuchs, who, shortly before, quit his job at a Parisian haute couture house, goes with him. When they arrive, they’re welcomed by a group of strange characters: a sparrow hanged on a string in the forest, a piece of wood strapped in a similar way, some obscure signs on the walls, the garden and the woods and a maid at the guesthouse with a deformed mouth. Meanwhile, Witold falls in love with the guesthouse owners’ daughter, who is married to an honest and upright young man – but she may not be so faithful. And at the same time, more mysterious and extravagant events take place…
