Undine

Christian Petzold

Original title: Undine

“If you leave me, I’ll have to kill you”, the movie’s protagonist tells her lover as they part ways with her at the corner café. Diving into the subtle realm of the supernatural, director Christian Petzold re-imagines the mythological figure of the water nymph Undine, who becomes human when she falls in love and dies if her lover is unfaithful, translating it into a 21st century love story. Here, Undine is a historian who works as a museum guide in Berlin. Defying the myth’s rules, the film bears fruit to a heartfelt play between reality and illusion.
