Born in 1979, Juho Kuosmanen is a Finnish director and screenwriter based in Helsinki. In 2014, he finished his studies at the School of Art
and Design at Aalto University, with a thesis film, The Painting Sellers,
that earned him five nominations for the Finnish Academy of Cinema
awards. Some of his short films have won several awards at major
festivals such as Locarno. He has also worked as an opera director. With
The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki, he won at Cannes, in 2016, the award for the section Un Certain Regard. In this year's Cannes edition, Compartment No. 6 won the Grand Prix (the second most important distinction at the festival), ex aequo with Asghar Farhadi's A Hero.
