Andreas Goldstein was born in East Berlin in 1964, son of a GDR worker. He studied directing at the Potsdam-Babelsberg Film University, and in 1999 entered a masters at the Berlin Academy of Arts. That same year, he debuted his documentary Die Erklärung des ersten Kapitels Luce, and spent the following years working at the production company Next, along with Peter Voigt.


In 2008, Goldstein founded the production company Oktoberfilm alongside Susanne Binninger, where he has since produced several works. More recently, Goldstein released Adam and Evelyn, his first feature film as a director, at the Venice Film Festival in 2018, debuting the documentary The Communist shortly after, at the DOK Leipzig Festival.
