Elena López Riera was born in Orihuela (Spain), in 1982. After completing her doctoral thesis on Contemporary Argentine Cinema, she began teaching Comparative Literature at the University of Geneva and the Carlos III University, in Madrid. 


She has directed the short films Pueblo (2015), Las Vísceras (2016) and Los Que Desean (2018) and participated in the Berlinale Talent Campus of the 2017 Berlin International Festival.


Her first feature film El Agua (2022) has received international appraisal and Elena has been nominated for different festivals such as the Cannes International Film Festival and the San Sebástian International Film Festival.
