Gonçalo Byrne is a Portuguese architect, responsible for the conception and creation of a variety of projects. With a creative eye towards the cosmopolitan world and a detailed and attentive approach to urban changes, his work includes museums, theatres, hotels and urban complexes, amongst many other forms and shapes. Of his most recent interventions, the projects that stand out the most are the Santa Maria de Alcobaça Monastery, the Headquarters of the Regional Parliament of the Province of Flemish Brabant in Belgium, the Maritime Control Tower of the Port of Lisbon and the Machado de Castro National Museum. Spanning over four decades, his oeuvre has gathered several national and international awards and in 2005 Byrne was awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa from the Technical University of Lisbon, before being elected as president of the Association of Architects in 2020.
