Lawyer and Civil Rights Activist

Chen Guangcheng is a Chinese dissidente also known as “the barefoot lawyer”.


Chen has been challenging the chinese government regarding policies aiding the disabled, as he himself is blind. In 2005, he filed a class action against Shandong’s government, accusing it of barbarismo on the implementation of the one-child policy. After this lawsuit, Chen was kidnapped, arrested and, later, put under home arrest until he escaped to the US in 2012. Chen went on to receive several awards for his work as na advocate for human rights.

On the 31st October 2019, LEFFEST
has awarded Guangcheng Chen a special tribute for his fight for dignity and human rights. His participation in the event will be done through a video-interview conducted by Juan Branco, which will be presented in the Opening of the Resistances Internacional Symposium, on the 16th November at the Olga Cadavel Cultural Center.
