Bookseller and representative of the RELI association

José Pinho is a bookseller and the founder of the acclaimed Ler Devagar bookshop. After opening his first bookstore in 1999 in  Bairro Alto, in Lisbon, which eventually closed its doors in 2005, he also co-created the bookstores of the French Institute of Lisbon, the Culturgest and the Portuguese Cinematheque. In 2007, in collaboration with the small bookstore Eterno Retorno, Ler Devagar created the Fábrica Braço de Prata space, only to settle at Lx Factory in Alcântara one year later, where it still resides today. In 2014, Pinho collaborated in the opening of several bookstores in Óbidos, now called the “literary village”, and in the Óbidos International Literary Festival. He is also a representative of RELI, the independent bookshop network, an association that fights for the survival of small bookshops in Portugal.
