Lambert Wilson is a French actor considered one of the greatest talents to come out of the 1980’s. In 1982, a short while after finishing his education at the Drama Centre in London, Wilson obtained his first leading role in Fred Zinnemann’s film Five Days One Summer, where he acted opposite Sean Connery. The son of actor Georges Wilson, who directed him in the film La Vouivre (1989), Lambert Wilson also played the destructive Quentin in André Téchiné’s psychological drama Rendez-vous, and a cynical, nostalgic photographer in Vera Belmont’s Rouge Baiser, both from 1985. During that decade, Lambert also collaborated in films by renowned directors such as Claude Chabrol, Andrzej Wajda and Carlos Saura. During the 90’s, Wilson became incredibly comfortable with his role as a leading man, thanks to a vast series of performances in numerous French productions. Despite not being immediately recognised by the American audience, his small roles in independent films have increased his chances of future international success. It was during this period that Wilson became increasingly prominent on stage, due to memorable performances beside great theatre talents such as Maggie Smith, Judi Dench and his own father. In 1994, Lambert staged a production of Les Caprices de Marianne by Alfred de Musset, which toured through France after a successful season in Paris. After the international success of his collaboration in The Matrix Reloaded (2003), Wilson also acted in several other American productions, such as Timeline and Catwoman. However, he was faithful to his French roots and returned to national productions, collaborating in Pas sur la Bouche (2003), by Alain Resnais. In addition to his career as an actor, Wilson has narrated classical works directed by some of the most renowned maestros and has also released compilations of hits from American musicals and from the Golden Age of French cinema. In 2016 he stars, alongside Agathe Bonitzer and Isabelle Huppert, in Tout de suite Maintenant, the latest film by French director Pascal Bonitzer.
