Laura Halilovic was born in 1989, in Piemont, Italy, to a Romani family from Bosnia-Herzegovina. 


Since 2007, she has been collaborating as an assistant director in the activities of the Cultural Center for Communication and Media in Turin. She has worked on a project called ITER (Institution for a Responsible Education), which was set up by the Department of Educational Services. In 2007, she won the Sub-18 Film Festival with the short film Illusion. In 2009, she directed Io, La Mia Famiglia Rom and Woody Allen, her first documentary, based on the acceptance process of her origins and on her personal experience as a member of the Rom community, which was presented at various festivals, such as the Rolling Film Festival, Monte-Carlo Television Festival and the One World Film Festival, where it won the Best International Documentary Award. With the feature film Io Rom Romantica (2014), she won the 2nd Prize at the Mantova Festival.
