Lucienne Peiry was the first woman to obtain a PhD in Art History from the University of Lausanne, her birthplace. She also wrote the first thesis on the subject of “Art Brut”. From 2001 to 2011, she directed the Art Brut Collection Museum in Lausanne, created in 1975 – thanks to the painter Jean Dubuffet’s collection donation – to which she brought a new life, organizing numerous theater, music and dance events, and developing the production and screening of documentary films. From 2012 to 2014, she took on the direction of the Collection’s research and international relations, which allowed her to gain further appreciation and to meet artists from all over the world. Since 2014, she continues to work on the Art Brut domain, independently. She wrote exhibit catalogs and books on the subject, especially Art Brut, a reference work.
