Luigi de Magistris, the current mayor of Naples, is one of the pillars of resistance to far-right movements in Europe.
As a prosecutor general, he investigated organized crime and corruption involving Italian politicians. Between 2009 and 2011, he was an MEP for the party IdV - Italy of Values and, in 2011, he ran for the Mayor’s Office in Naples, assuring his position as Mayor, to which he was reelected in 2016. In 2017, he founded the DemA - Democrazia e Autonomia party, to which he currently belongs. His efforts fighting crime and corruption in Italy earned him the Valerioti-Impastato award.
