Miguel Duarte has been charged of aiding and abetting illegal immigration for saving lives in the Mediterranean Sea. A mathematics student, Miguel joined the german organization Jugend Rettet in 2016, and helped save 14 thousand people who fled Libya in order to reach Europe. In 2018, Italy’s General Prosecution Office began investigating him and the rest of the crew serving at Iuventa rescuing ship for criminal offenses.
