Nicoletta Braschi is an Italian actress, born in Cesena, in 1960. She studied in the Rome Academy of Dramatic Arts, where she met, in 1980, Roberto Benigni, who she would marry years later. Her first role was in Benigni’s 1983 comedy Tu Mi Turbi. Shortly after, in 1986, she had a role in Down By Law, by Jim Jarmusch, who she would work with again, three years later, in Mystery Train. Despite working in feature films with such directors as Marco Ferreri, Bernardo Bertolucci or Blake Edwards, her career is undeniably linked to her husband’s and to some of his most iconic films, such as Johnny Stecchino (1991), Life is Beautiful (1997) and The Tiger and the Snow (2005), which she also produced. Along with her film activites, Nicoletta Braschi has worked in theater as well, acting in plays adapted from works by Boris Vian or Miguel de Cervantes, for instance, and with stage directors like Andrea Renzi and Claudio Abbado.
