Artist and Researcher

Nithya Iyer (AUS) is an interdisciplinary researcher and performing artist.

Her practice involves experimental psycho-spatial methodologies
utilising text, performance, video and installation. The current themes of her work consider the reflexivities of inside/outside and the intersections of sense-making within the principles of phenomenology, ambiguity-as-process and decolonial praxis.

Nithya's performance and video work has been presented in festivals across Australia (This Is Not Art, Critical Animals, Mapping Melbourne) and India (Natya STEM Dance Kampni - Kampni Kutcheri, Multiverse Arts). She was trained for 15 years at the Chandrabhanu Bharatalaya Academy of Indian Dance and is a founding member of interdisciplinary arts collective L&NDLESS. In 2020, Nithya holds a Masters in Therapeutic Arts Practice from the Melbourne Institute of Experiential and Creative Art Therapy. She is currently completing a project at the Hangar Centre for Artistic Investigation with the support of the Ian Potter Cultural Trust (Australia) and recently facilitated the Lisbon workshop Notes from Atopia, for the European Cooperation funded 4Cs Project - From Conflict to Conviviality through Creativity and Culture.
