Back
The MoMA (May 6 – June 6) and the Centre Pompidou (May 27 – July 3rd) present complete retrospectives of the films of Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet, who together formed one of the most intense and challenging collaborations in the history of cinema. In 2011 and 2014, the LEFFEST presented, in special screenings, an ensemble of films directed by Straub after Huillet’s death in 2006.

Straub–Huillet created a unique and dense cinematic oeuvre, radical and demanding, working intimately on every aspect of film production, from script writing to direction to editing.

At 83, Straub continues to make films that never waver from his commitment to the subversion of all forms of cinematic convention. The LEFFEST presented a selction of those films. In 2011, under the title Old and New Straub, Lothringen! (1994, co-directed with Huillet), Un Héritier, L’inconsolable and Schakale und Araber, all of 2011, were screened.

In 2014, the Festival screened La Madre (2012), Un Conte de Michel de Montaigne (2013), Dialogue d’Ombres (2013, a project with its origins in the 50s, when Straub and Huillet met), À Propos de Venise, Kommunisten and La Guerre d’Algérie, all of 2014, having the last one had its world premiere at the LEFFEST.
