Danielle Arbid at LEFFEST´20

Danielle Arbid is a Lebanese filmmaker who will be at LEFFEST’20 to present her latest film Passion Simple (2020), an adaptation of Annie Ernaux's novel of the same name.
Born in Beirut in 1970, Arbid left Lebanon at 17 years of age during the height of the country’s civil war and moved to Paris to study Literature. She wrote for various news outlets before entering the world of cinema in 1997, and her first short film was released the following year. With an oeuvre that explores different narrative forms, her work has been travelling through the big international festival circuit ever since.
Her latest film, Passion Simple, is an erotic and daring drama that paints a tribute to amour fou, perennial and treasured subject of French literature and cinema. An adaptation of Annie Ernaux's novel of the same name (1991), the screening of Passion Simple at LEFFEST'20 will be accompanied by the release of the Portuguese edition of the book, published by Livros do Brasil/Porto Editora and translated by Tereza Coelho.
