José María Riba (1952-2020)

Back
José María Riba (1952-2020), who for many years was a member of LEFFEST’s selection committee, has passed away last Friday, in Paris, where he lived.

He wrote and spoke about cinema in several media (such as Radio France Internationale, Libération newspaper, France Press Agency; for a long time, he collaborated with Octavi Marti in the presentation of Cineclassics channel sessions, during the first years of Canal +), he worked with several film festivals, including Cannes (at the selection committee of the International Critics’ Week) and San Sebastián, in which he played a crucial role. A perceptive cinephile, Riba contributed to put forward the work of emergent filmmakers and had, for some years now, been invested in promoting Spanish cinema in France.

With his unvarying cheerfulness and honest smile, José María Riba always had a note of humor with which to salute his interlocutors. He will be missed.
