In this segment we will share some of the highlights of our programme. Here are the suggestions for Saturday, November 5th.

 

AMERICAN HONEY AND ELLE IN COMPETITION

American Honey by Andrea Arnold and Elle by Paul Verhoeven will inaugurate the Official Selection – In Competition Section.

 

AGUSTÍN DÍAZ YANES RETROSPECTIVE

Spanish director Agustín Díaz Yanes and actress Victoria Abril will attend the screenings of CAPTAIN ALATRISTE and DON’T TEMPT ME.

 

CRISTIAN MUNGIU, THE NEW WAVE OF ROMANIAN CINEMA

Cristian Mungiu, one of the leading figures of the Romanian new wave and winner of the Palme d’Or, is one of the guests of the current edition of the Lisbon & Estoril Film Festival. He will grace us with GRADUATION, a film about the depressive state of Romania, a somber image of the lost hopes of the generation of the 90’s.

 

THE LEFT-HANDED WOMAN, THE POETRY OF EVERYDAY LIFE

In The Left-Handed Woman, the first feature film by Austrian writer Peter Handke, Edith Clever and Bruno Ganz play a German couple in the midst of a personal crisis in the suburs of Paris. Peter Hnadke will attend the session to take part in a conversation with the audience.

 

TRIPLE SESSION WITH JERZY SKOLIMOWSKI

November 5th is Jerzy Skolimowski day. WALKOVER, THE DEPARTURE and RYSOPIS (along with a session of short films) will be screened with the attendance of the Polish director.

 

MONICA BELLUCCI, THE RAVISHING WOMAN OF MALÈNA

This year, the Lisbon & Estoril Film Festival asked Monica Bellucci to introduce Malèna, a film directed by Giuseppe Tornatore.

 

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS

The screening of MARADONA by Emir Kusturica, introduced by António-Pedro Vasconcelos; PASSIONby Jean-Luc Godard, introduced by Stanislas Merhar; PIANISTS STREET by Mariano Nante, who the film introduce it along with Daniel Rosenfeld; LA CHINOISE by Godard, followed by a conversation with Manuel Villaverde Cabral; HISTOIRE(S) DU CINÉMA, introduced by Jean Douchet and FATHER, followed by a conversation with director Giada Colagrande,
