National premiere of Pathos Ethos Logos at LEFFEST’21

“I don’t know if I will ever exhaust the open land of multiple registers which the film offers me, shaking up the whole of my life. But now I know that thanks to God (...) I will carry with me what this heap has left in my heart; another great testimony of love of life, of attention for others, a great gate to a renewal of consciences. It was much needed.”

This is an extract from the wonderful text Luis Miguel Cintra wrote for Pathos Ethos Logos, the latest feature film by Joaquim Pinto and Nuno Leonel, that had its world premiere in the Official Selection of Locarno Film Festival. This unclassifiable new work, of monumental ambition and scale, now arrives at the Out of Competition section of LEFFEST ‘21. Sessions will take place at Cinema Medeia Nimas, on the 19th, 20th and 21st of November. Somewhere between a film essay, a documentary and an apocalyptic fantasy, this is a story divided into three distinct timelines.

The events of Pathos, the first part of this cinematic tryptic, unfold in 2028. It will be screened on November 19, 5 p.m., with actor and director Luis Miguel Cintra and Abbot Bernardino da Costa (Singeverga Monastery) both present for a talk after the film.

Pathos is followed by Ethos, that has its premiere on November 20, Saturday, also at 5 p.m., in a screening presented by actress Rafaela Jacinto and João Antunes, representative of Doctors Without Borders Portugal. The narrative of Ethos is centered on the character played by Rafaela Jacinto, in the year 2017.

Sunday, November 21, at 5:15 p.m., there will be a screening of Logos, the third and final volume of Pathos Ethos Logos, that takes us to the not-so-distant future of 2037. This session will be presented by actresses Ângela Cerveira and Fabiana Silva, and Martim Grange, facilitator and trainer for Climate Fresk.

Everyone is invited for what is likely to be one of the greatest cinematic events of the year!
