One of the most anticipated films of the year, The Human Voice (2020) directed by Pedro Almodóvar and starring the incomparable Tilda Swinton, will have its Portuguese premiere tomorrow at LEFFEST’20. Having had its international premiere at the Venice Film Festival, The Human Voice marks the first collaboration between Almodóvar and Swinton, a long-awaited moment by the filmmaker and his fans.

Based on the monodrama of the same name written by Jean Cocteau in 1928, The Human Voice is born out of Almodóvar’s tragically eccentric nature and contrasted tones that never leave a big red splatter out of the carefully framed picture.

The filmmaker’s interest in the play can be traced back to 1988, when it served as inspiration for the screenplay of his critically acclaimed film Women On The Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. This time, Almodóvar worked with Swinton to modernize certain aspects of the story, which revolves around a woman and her dog, both abandoned by the same man.

The screening of The Human Voice will be accompanied by a pre-recorded interview of Pedro Almodóvar and Tilda Swinton, and will be presented at LEFFEST in two special sessions: tomorrow, the 20th of November, at 7pm, at Centro Cultural Olga Cadaval in Sintra, and on Monday, the 23rd of November, at 7:30pm, at Teatro Tivoli BBVA in Lisbon.
