World Piano Days: Great Pianists at LEFFEST

Back
For some years now, World Piano Day is celebrated on the 88th day of the year. The chosen date refers to the number of keys on the instrument, and this year – a leap year – it takes place this Saturday, on the 28th of March.

From the beginning, LEFFEST has been an interdisciplinary film festival, celebrating the dialogue between cinema and other arts, and we’re proud to have had among our guests several pianists, some of the best piano players alive. They were members of the jury, presented movies, played for our audience, spoke to us about their work…

Throughout the day, we will release videos of several of this encounters at our Facebook page. These are undeniable highlights of the festival, with distinguished personalities such as Martha Argerich, Maria João Pires, Alfred Brendel, Piotr Anderzewski, Stephen Kovacevich, Alain Planès, Momo Kodama, Itamar Golan, Natsuko Inoue, Irene Herrman… One such memorable moment was Alain Planès’ piano concert at LEFFEST’17.

Over the years, we have also screened several features dedicated to great pianists: we welcomed Bruno Monsaingeon who presented the rare movies he made with Glenn Gould and Svyatoslav Richter, whom he was friends with, as well as Piotr Anderzewski; we screened Stéphanie Argerich’s “Bloody Daughter”, a documentary about the director’s parents, Martha Argerich and Stephan Kovacevich; and Solrey’s “L’Infini Turbulent” about Alain Planès.
